At the end of the second day, I found two tents pitched by the river and some folks collecting firewood. There were four total: a couple from Holland, and a brother and sister from South Africa. I camped with them and shared the fire and ended up hiking most of the last three days with them! Some terrific people with great humour!

Look inside the Sierra Valdivieso set for photos of us wading across the Rio Olivia too late. The water came up to our chests and we had our packs above our heads!

All in all, this is an amazing trek with beautiful views and almost no other hikers. In the five days I was there, I saw 6 other hikers besides the 4 I camped with.

For those who are not familar with the area, perhaps a shot of your map to help orient us. How did you prepare your trip for those five days? Did you have certain destinations in mind or did you take it day by day? What did you do about food?
