I'm staying at a hostel in Palermo, which is yuppie central for most of the porteños, called Tango Backpackers. Not a bad place, but not that nice either. On Saturday, they hosted a grand asado for 10 pesos. That's right, 10 pesos. All-you-can-eat delicious Argentine beef and sausage, salad, bread and wine for what amounts to US$3.50. What a fiesta! About 80 people showed up and it was great to chat with fellow backpackers from all over the world: Holland, Sweden, Israel, Peru, Spain, Belgium, England, Australia, New Zealand to name a few I have ran into so far. I haven't met one Canadian. Not a single one. And I've only seen one Canadian maple leaf sewed onto the back of a pack. Where are you Canada? You're missing a great city!
